Possible driver: Scale as safety
Our read: Sergey Brin treats scale — users, cash, or installed base — as the primary buffer against both competitors and regulators.

Not a diagnosis. Nobody here has examined Sergey, and no clinical term appears in this section. This is an interpretation of public behaviour by people who are not their doctor. We publish it because when this much power sits with one person, what drives them stops being a private matter — not to excuse anything, and not to explain it away.

2003 emails: Maxwell invited Brin to a film screening and a dinner at Epstein's home
2003 · 2003 Maxwell–Brin email correspondence, Epstein document release
Correspondence in the Justice Department's Epstein document release, as reported by PBS NewsHour, shows that in 2003 Ghislaine Maxwell invited Brin to a New York screening of the Renee Zellweger film "Down with Love," and followed up weeks later to invite him to what she described as a "happily casual and relaxed" dinner at Epstein's house. Brin replied offering to bring Google's then-CEO Eric Schmidt. The documents as reported do not establish whether either man attended. Google spokespeople did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Brin is not accused of any wrongdoing in the material, and receiving an invitation is not evidence of any.

NBC News: Brin emailed about meeting Epstein during a 2003 New York trip
2003 · 2003 Brin email, Justice Department Epstein document release
NBC News, reviewing the Justice Department's release of Epstein files, reported that Sergey Brin exchanged emails with Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003 about meeting up with Epstein during a trip to New York, writing "Let me know what works for you and Jeffrey." The email dates from 2003, several years before Epstein's 2008 guilty plea. Google did not respond to NBC News' request for comment. The reporting describes scheduling correspondence and attaches no allegation of wrongdoing to Brin. Appearing in these documents is not evidence of wrongdoing.

Brin among billionaires subpoenaed in the U.S. Virgin Islands' suit against JPMorgan
2023-05-04 · USVI v. JPMorgan Chase subpoena filings, S.D.N.Y.
The U.S. Virgin Islands' civil lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase alleged the bank facilitated Epstein's conduct. In the course of that litigation the territory issued subpoenas to a number of high-net-worth individuals over what it described as their purported links to the bank and to Epstein. Fox Business, reporting in May 2023 on a motion filed in the Southern District of New York concerning efforts to serve Larry Page, noted that subpoenas had previously been issued to Sergey Brin, Mortimer Zuckerman and Thomas Pritzker. A subpoena is a request for records or testimony, not an accusation of wrongdoing; none of these individuals was a defendant in the case, and the reporting does not indicate any finding against them.
